If you study about a CNA in nursing homes, you will understand that it has been bounded with so many different types of duties.  Suppose if you are working in a continuing care community, you will have to stick on with busy schedule of work every day. If you are an employee in a CNA in a nursing home, you will have to fulfill all kinds of essential requirements of residents.  According to the ward or wing of the nursing home, the nature of job will be changing and types of your entire tasks will be changed according to the needs of wings.   You can work in any section or wing in such nursing home.  There is no problem.  But your important job is you have to dedicate yourself to your patients wholeheartedly.  You have to serve them   through your concerned care and dedication according to their needs.

Mostly every patient will be expecting your sincere service and in a continuing care community. Some patients will be expecting your assistance for normal walking practice or for common walk for some distance. Some will expect you to move their wheel chair from their personal room to the dinning hall or activity room or some other areas.  You have to sincerely take care of them by doing these assistances. Some patients will expect you even to eat their regular meals and they will be expecting you to assist for some other regular unavoidable activities.  Hence, if you are a staff of a CNA in a nursing home setting, suppose if any patients want to take bath and your help is being needed, you have to do the same to such residents without hesitation.  

Some patients will expect you to assist them when they go for toileting.  Among them, some will be used to wear adult diapers and if they would like to change their diapers, you have to assist them for the same also. So you have to sincerely dedicate your service to maintain their dignity.  Suppose if your patients are unable to move from one place to another place as disabled persons, you will have to reposition them in their bed.  You will have to reposition them once in every two hours to prevent them from bedsores. 

As a certified nursing assistant, if you are working in a CNA, you have to also take care of their grooming needs.  As per their expectations, you will have to do some important grooming jobs such as brushing their teeth, combing their hair, making them to have better make up to be refreshed.   Some persons will request you to shave them and in this situation, you have to do the same without hesitation.  Some female patients will ask you to decorate their nails by putting nail polish or they will ask you to comb and style their hair in a different manner.  You have to certainly meet their all such requirements also.  

Daily once or twice or as per schedule, you will have to change a resident’s linen on his bed. Sometimes you will be forced to clean their room.  As a nursing assistant in CNA, you have to complete these kinds of assistances also.    Apart from all these jobs, if you are working in a nursing home as a hired employee, you will be definitely assigned to housekeeping also.  

As you are a staff in CNA, you will be required to teach some kinds of regular exercises for your oversee residents.  Some patients will not be able to do their exercise without your assistance; now you have to help them to do their exercise in a better way.  But some patients will do their exercise on its own effort.  In such cases, you will have to watch them and guide them and you will have to especially teach them about how to do motion type exercises.  When they are doing their exercises, you have to carefully watch them and instruct them in a perfect manner.   Since you have been advised by your supervisor about doing exercises in a perfect manner, you have to simply watch them and direct them.

If you are working in a nursing home as a nursing assistant, you will have to do some important signs. You have to take blood pressure and temperature from time to time.  Also it is necessary to maintain their intake of food and liquids on their own medical chart. For some patients in some situations, you will have to maintain and notice their blood pressure readings. Suppose if your patient is being admitted in orthopedic ward for great injuries and sickness, you will have to certainly follow some essential procedures.  That is you will have to take reports of their ailment, you will have to watch changing condition of their sickness and you have to fulfill their essential needs from time to time. If you are working as a hired employee in a nursing home, the management will give your job description and according to that, you will have to do your specific duties sincerely.
